PERTH INTERNATIONAL ARTS FESTIVAL
5/02/2010 - 1/03/2010
Various Perth Venues -
Shelagh Magadza, Artistic Director of the 2010 Perth International Arts Festival says: "Some of the most powerful voices in society have belonged to artists willing to challenge convention and illuminate our thinking with their ideas and their passions. Using language, humour or beauty, they have helped us understand ourselves and our societies." Within the 2010 program there are certainly some of those voices - individuals who use art to examine how we live our lives and we relate to humankind.
From the American civil rights movement to Stalinist Russia to modern philosophical challenges, and abundance of ideas are drawn upon, expressed with both joy and pathos. Some of the Festival highlights include: a new production of the opera Peter Grimes by Benjamin Britten (Aus); the Druid Theatre company's The Walworth Farce (Ire); the tempest in a coffee cup The Society (Nor); Deckchair Theatre's world premiere of Grace (Aus); Black Swan's The Sapphires (Aus); and far too many theatrical delights to mention here!
